Dr. Hannah Stewart, a dedicated chemist at Newcastle University, is striving to make history at this year’s Great North Run by setting a new world record for the fastest half marathon by a female dressed as a scientist.

An Ambitious Goal

Hannah is a senior research associate in the Cancer Research UK Drug Discovery Centre. With her impressive background in organic chemistry from the University of Cambridge, she is passionate about discovering new treatments for resistant cancers, focusing on more effective and kinder medication. This record attempt is more than a personal quest; it’s a unique approach to fundraising for Cancer Research UK.

Challenging as it may be, Hannah must complete the race in under 90 minutes while complying with strict guidelines, including wearing a full scientist outfit—lab coat, trousers, gloves, science glasses—and carrying a measuring cylinder. Evidence from two witnesses will be required at each mile marker.
