Glasgow schoolboy Ameer Hamid, just 12 years old, has taken the cricketing world by storm. With his impressive performance, he aims to secure a spot in the Scotland national cricket team. Playing for the Kelvinside Cricket Club, Ameer has distinguished himself as the highest wicket-taker at the club and the second highest in the entire Western Championship second division.
Ameer’s Impressive Journey
What makes Ameer’s journey astonishing is his participation in the adult league at a tender age. Despite being only 12 years old, he plays for the club’s second team, which finished third in the league, thanks to his efforts. His consistent performance led the team to win every game he played.
The fast bowler’s success is attributed to Kelvinside Cricket Club’s robust youth program, which also saw under-19s player Zain Ullah become the highest wicket-taker in the club’s first team, competing in the Western Premiership. The premise serves as a breeding ground for Scotland’s international cricket talents.
Ameer’s determination and hard work have paid off immensely, setting a high benchmark for young aspiring cricketers. Speaking to Glasgow Live, he shared, “I’m really pleased with how my season has gone. It’s been amazing to play alongside older, more experienced players. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here, but it’s all been worth it. I’m determined to keep working hard, improving every day, and one day, I hope to play for the Scotland team.”
Inspiration for Future Cricketers
Ameer’s journey has not only brought pride to his family but also aims to inspire young cricketers within the community. His father, Abdullah Hamid, a Glasgow lawyer, expressed his joy, “I’ve always had a deep passion for cricket, so watching my son flourish and develop in the sport has been an absolute joy. It’s incredibly exciting for me to follow his journey, and it brings me immense happiness to be a part of it.”
Glasgow High/Kelvinside Cricket Club hopes that Ameer’s achievements will encourage more youths to take up cricket and explore their potential. The club currently boasts two adult teams along with a junior side, providing ample opportunities for aspiring cricketers to hone their skills and follow their dreams.
With such dedication and achievements at a young age, Ameer Hamid’s future in cricket looks promising. He stands as a testament to what hard work and passion can achieve, inspiring young cricketers and heightening the spirit of the game in Scotland.
